PIBA - DIBA or How to Blend the Digital with the Physical

Blended interaction often is about blending the physical with the digital. In contrast to common discussions of blending that focus on the commonality of the input domains we focus on the unique features of interacting with physical and digital artifacts. We propose PIBADIBA lists (Physical Is Better At – Digital Is Better At) that capture the strengths of using the physical and digital realms in blended interaction design. Thus, PIBA-DIBA lists can act as a collection of “optimality patterns” that are focused on the uniqueness of both realms and can help in the analysis, design and evaluation of blended interaction designs.
